Water Supply Project Started For Famagusta Port
The project carried out in cooperation with the TRNC Ministry of Public Works and Transport and Famagusta (Gazimağusa) Municipality has started for the water supply to Famagusta Port.
The first bucket was struck yesterday 13th November for the project, which aims to provide water supply to public institutions, military units and workplaces and ships in Famagusta Port.
Water supply is coming into the port
The project, which has a tender price of approximately 9 million, is planned to be completed in 75 calendar days, in which 2,315 meters of excavation will be made in the port, pipe laying and asphalting will be done, 3 fire valves, 17 special water supply points for ships and 22 mains water connections will be made to the consumers in the port.
A cooperation protocol was signed between the TRNC Ministry of Public Works and Transport and Famagusta Municipality on May 23, 2023 in order to eliminate the difficulties caused by the lack of municipal mains water in the Famagusta Port and the supply of water through tankers in the works carried out within the scope of the mains water infrastructure investments of the Famagusta Municipality.
After the work of the Famagusta Municipality Water Works Unit and the Tender Department, the TRNC Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources provided the supply of pipes and components to be used in the project, and as a result of the tender, the Water Supply Project to Famagusta Port was implemented with the protocol signed between Destebaşı Construction Ltd. and Famagusta Municipality on September 12, 2024.
Ships will be connected to the water supply system
Famagusta Municipality Water Works Unit Officer Mustafa Katip announced that within the scope of the Water Supply Project to Famagusta Port, mains water will be supplied to all public, military and commercial units within the port boundaries by connecting meters, and water will also be supplied to the ships connected to the port dock.
He also noted that the project includes the laying of 4 new drinking water pipes of different diameters with a length of approximately 2,315 meters, hard ground excavations and the connection of special water supply points for ships with consumer connections in approximately 40 ports and all excavation works, asphalt-concrete covering, closure works and meter connection works.
