Ibrahim Dalkilic’s ‘Sub: liminal’ Photography Exhibition Opened
ARUCAD Art Space hosts the photography exhibition titled ‘Sub: liminal’, consisting of photographs taken by İbrahim Dalkılıç during his trip to Pakistan, with deep traces of social and individual life. In the exhibition curated by Oya Silbery, the sociological and psychological elements reflected in Dalkılıç’s camera reveal the surface appearance of a society and the emotional effects hidden in the background.
The Theme of Social Isolation and Invisibility
The photographs in the exhibition are mostly snapshots of the effects of factors such as social and political neglect, inadequate education, poor economic conditions and cultural degeneration on individuals and communities. Dalkılıç’s photographs subtly deal with the invisibility of individuals and the desensitisation of society to this invisibility.
People and Structures Trapped in Chaotic Movement
Viewed from a safe distance by the viewer, Dalkilic’s images give the impression of a commonplace, revealing the natural empathy of people trapped between makeshift structures, motor vehicles, animals, confusing signboards and electrical wires. These elements tell a moving story of how people get lost in everyday life amidst the rapid and constant movement in Pakistan.
