Famagusta Municipality And Masder Looking At Recycling Glass
In cooperation with Famagusta (Gazimagusa) Municipality and Famagusta Walled Society (MASDER), a study was initiated to collect glass waste throughout the city in order to protect the environment and dispose of solid waste. MAS-DER, under the chairmanship of Serdar Atai, who has been working on both effort and data in the successful studies he has carried out on the cleaning of the beaches in recent years, is working together with Famagusta Municipality to improve waste management.
As a step to encourage the participation of citizens within the boundaries of the municipality in recycling, skips were placed at Sakarya Magem for the collection of glass. The first of these steps, which will ensure the reduction, reuse, forward or recycling of waste on a household basis, has been put into practice in Sakarya Magem.
Serdar Atai, President of MAS-DER, gave information on the subject and said that glass wastes (bottles, jars, glasses, etc.) will be collected and transferred by vehicle to be turned into glass powder in a special facility, and invited citizens who have accumulated waste glass stock to throw them into the recycling skip at Sakarya Magem in a clean condition.
Atai stated that in the next step, plastic, metal, glass and paper/cardboard separation containers will be placed in the pilot areas, providing the necessary opportunity for sensitive citizens to contribute to recycling.
