Exciting Finish To Girne Motor Rally
The ‘Girne Rally,’ the seventh race of the 2024 Northern Cyprus Rally Championship, has been completed after a two-day programme.
Organised by the North Cyprus Touring and Automobile Club with the contributions of the Girne Municipality and the sponsorship of Prowin Exchange, the rally concluded with an awards ceremony held on Sunday, 27 October, at Girne’s Ancient Harbour. The second day of the rally featured stages in the Serdarlı region. In a thrilling event where the rankings constantly changed, the final winners were the duo of Çağkan Bozalanlar and Hasan Evrensel.
**Winners: BOZALANLAR – EVRENSEL DUO**
With contributions from the Girne Municipality, the championship sponsorship of Basel Holding, and the main sponsorship of Fina Petrol and Prowin Exchange, as well as support from Basel Energy, Polaris, Gen Power, GoPro, Limon, Near East Bank, Jack & Jones, Çağkan Yapı İskele Sistemleri, Sportface, İkas Supermarket, Aveon Insurance, Rinata Parts & Oil, Chagla Car Care, Seyhun Bıkmaz Driving School, and Eurol, the second day of the rally featured stages named Serdarlı, Tirmen, and Çatoz, each run twice.
During the Girne Harbour Special Stage, the Goodyear Racing Team duo of Cevdet Alptürk and Mehmet Çağla maintained their lead throughout the day, but faced a mechanical failure during the second Tirmen stage, forcing them to withdraw from the rally. This allowed the NEU Drift Racing Team duo of Enver Haskasap and Halil Mulla to take the lead as they started the final stage first. However, they lost time in the final stage, allowing the Goodyear Racing Team duo of Çağkan Bozalanlar and Hasan Evrensel to overtake them. Bozalanlar and Evrensel showcased an impressive performance in the last stage, securing their victory and taking a significant step towards the championship. Haskasap and Mulla finished in second place, while the Stage Cars Rally Team duo of Barış Kalfaoğlu and İrfan Topcu completed a flawless performance in the final stage to secure a spot on the podium.
**AWARDS CEREMONY HELD AT GIRNE ANCIENT HARBOUR**
At the end of the race, the awards ceremony took place at Girne Ancient Harbour. The trophies were presented to the winners by Murat Şenkul, the Mayor of Girne, along with Ayşe Basel Gökkaya, Şenol Gökkaya, and Onay Basel on behalf of championship sponsor Basel Holding, and Tigin Kişmir, the President of the North Cyprus Touring and Automobile Club.
