National Archives records in London from the 1970’s, showed that a delegation from Libya visited Northern Cyprus (TFSC) to discuss support. Although the Libyan officials were wined and dined by officials from the Turkish Federated State of Cyprus (TFSC) as it was known back then. No Libyan support was ever forthcoming.
Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (Former Shah of Iran) left Iran in 1979, after the Islamic revolution swept the country. The Shah blamed the British and Americans for the end of his controversial reign and he later died in exile in 1989 in Cairo, Pahlavi was aged 60. The Shah was given a state funeral by the Egyptians.
The Peace and Freedom Museum- The open-air museum, will also include a Turkish tank at some point to complete the miliary equipment stationed at the site. Talks are still ongoing regarding this addition.
American Turkish Arms Embargo- After the hostilities of 1974, the United States applied an arms embargo on both Turkey (1975-78) and Cyprus. The embargo on Turkey was lifted after three years by President Jimmy Carter (Democrat), whereas the embargo on Cyprus remained in place for longer, it has since been partially lifted by the current U.S. administration. Turkey in the meantime continues to develop its own military programme including drones, ships, arsenal and aircraft.
