Girne Municipality participated in Council of Europe Congress

Mayor of Girne Murat Şenkul attended the 47th Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe of the Union of Turkish Cypriot Municipalities. He was part of the delegation that went to Strasbourg, France to attend the General Assembly and committee meetings. During the meetings held between 15-17 October, they also met  President of the Congress, Marc Cools of the Council of Europe.

Representing the Union of Turkish Cypriot Municipalities, the delegation chaired by the Union of Turkish Cypriot Municipalities and Mayor of Güzelyurt Mahmut Özçınar, Mayor of Girne Murat Şenkul, Mayor of Çatalköy-Esentepe Ceyhun Kırok, Mayor of Gönyeli-Alayköy Hüseyin Amcaoğlu, Mayor of Lefkoşa Turkish Municipality Mehmet Harmancı, Mayor of Girne Hüseyin Köle and Mayor of Gönyeli-Alayköy Ferruh Dülgeroğlu also took part.

During the meetings, issues such as local elections in Turkey, Russia’s war in Ukraine, strengthening local and regional democracy, digitalization, artificial intelligence and regional governance, as well as global issues such as rebuilding Ukraine and promoting the economy at the local level were also discussed. In addition, the projects of the young delegates were presented.

Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul conveyed the work of Girne Municipality at the local and regional level at the meetings. Mayor Şenkul also served as the Representative of the Social Participation and Human Dignity Committee.
