Revived Girne Co-operation With Turkish State Theatres
A cooperation protocol was signed between the Municipality of Girne and the General Directorate of Turkish State Theatres. The signing ceremony, held in the Girne Municipality Assembly Hall, was attended by Girne Mayor, Murat Şenkul, General Director and General Art Director of Turkish State Theatres, Tamer Karadağlı, Deputy General Directors of Turkish State Theatres, Sukün Işıtan and Hüsnü Emre Başer, Art Technical Director Hakan Dündar, Girne Municipality Social Affairs Branch Manager and Culture and Art Advisor Serdar Tuksal. Prior to the signing ceremony, a brief conversation took place and mutual gifts were exchanged.
Purpose Of The Protocol
The protocol aims to promote the organisation of joint events and activities, to develop Turkish Cypriot Theatre, to strengthen its aesthetic and ethical values, and to contribute to the cultural and artistic dimension of tourism through theatre art.
Şenkul: “An Important Contribution To Our Country’s Culture And Art”
Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul expressed his great happiness with the agreement, pointing out that Turkey is an important country in the field of theatre as in every other field. Şenkul highlighted that the Turkish State Theatres, with its strong pool of artists, will make significant contributions to the culture and art of the country. Şenkul stated that they have established a formula based on culture, art, and sports to foster a love for the city of Girne, aiming to create a common ground through these three areas and to promote ownership of the city. Şenkul expressed his gratitude to Karadağlı and his team, noting that the support provided in this context is very meaningful.
Karadagli: “Serving the Common Thought Between The Two Peoples”
Saying that he does not see Cyprus as a separate place but as a part of themselves, General Director and General Art Director of Turkish State Theatres Tamer Karadağlı expressed his hope that the established cooperation would continue for many years. Karadağlı underscored that the cooperation serves the common thought between the two peoples and emphasized that Cyprus is very important to them in this regard.
Işıtan : “A Important Contribution To The Theatre f Both Countries”
Pointing out that the signed protocol will revive the joint activities that had been on hold for a long time, Deputy General Director of Turkish State Theatres, Sukün Işıtan, expressed his hopes for the cooperation to evolve to better places. Işıtan recalled that Turkish State Theatres have led seven different international festivals and noted that it is important for them to host teams from Cyprus at these festivals. Işıtan emphasized that this artistic exchange will make significant contributions to the theatre of both countries.
