Ataoğlu: “Plastic causes serious damage to nature and people”
The Famagusta Unit of the Environmental Protection Department of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment of the Deputy Prime Ministry continues its inspections within the scope of the regulation on the reduction of the use of Single-Use Plastic Products.
The Famagusta Unit of the Environmental Protection Department inspected a total of 23 markets between June and July and gave a time notice to the markets on plastic products that are prohibited to being used in 11 market aisles.
In its single-use plastic inspection last week, the department inspected 10 markets and found plastic products that are prohibited for use in the aisles in five of the markets.
The personnel of the department, who give time notices to business owners, will continue to carry out these inspections in all regions at regular intervals.
Within the scope of the Regulation on Reducing the Impact of Single-Use Plastic Products on the Environment, the penalty for selling these products is up to the monthly minimum wage.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu pointed out that single-use plastic products disrupt the natural balance and invited businesses and citizens to be sensitive about not using plastic products.
In his statement, Minister Ataoğlu emphasized the importance of working hand in hand to leave a beautiful world to the next generation and touched on the harms of plastic waste.
Explaining that in recent years, plastic disposable products have become more aware of the damage they cause to the environment, Ataoğlu stated that many countries have started to take various measures in this regard.
Pointing out that the mixing of plastic wastes with nature causes serious damage to both terrestrial and marine ecosystems, Ataoğlu stated that plastics endanger the lives of animals and negatively affect human health in the long run.
Stating that they have taken a big step to protect the environment with the prohibition of the use of plastic disposable products, Ataoğlu said that they will continue to work to raise awareness on this issue.
Ataoğlu stated that as the ministry, they will continue to take decisive steps to protect nature and leave a healthier world to future generations, and emphasized that they also aim to increase the social perception in the fight against plastic pollution in a good way.
