Restriction On Business Permits In Girne

On 10th July 2024 Girne Municipality Council unanimously approved the proposal from the Girne Municipal Administration to limit business permits in certain areas.

New Era Begins

Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul stated that the decisions made during the meeting of the Girne Municipality Council signaled the beginning of a new era for the city and are an important step in terms of planning. Şenkul said that businesses on Canbulat Street, Ziya Rızkı Street, and Atatürk Street will now have a maximum limit set for obtaining business permits. He also said that two betting offices in Girne Bazaar area will be relocated within a year.

In Girne Bazaar area, no new business permits will be issued in the areas of Ziya Rızkı and Atatürk Streets except for existing off-licences. (An upper limit number will be set, and new permits will only be issued if the number falls below this upper limit.)

Betting Offices To Move

Another significant decision made during the meeting was that the betting offices in Girne Bazaar area would be relocated within a year. Murat Şenkul announced that “No new betting office permits will be issued in Girne Bazaar area, and the two existing betting offices will be able to obtain a business permit from our municipality until July 9, 2025, at the latest. In other words, there will be no betting offices in the bazaar a year from now.  Support will be provided to businesses by allowing their business permits to continue at the new address when they relocate.”
