Increased TRNC Beach Inspections

The Department of Environmental Protection under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment of the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office has increased surveillance of the TRNC beaches.

The Department of Environmental Protection, which has increased inspections in Special Environmental Protection Zones and on the beaches where turtles lay eggs, also imposes penalties on those who engage in activities that will prevent the laying of eggs by Caretta Caretta turtles that come to northern beaches to  lay eggs.

It has been determined in the Environmental Law that citizens using our beaches can use temporary structures such as caravans, tents, etc. between 8.00 in the morning and 20.00 in the evening, and that it is forbidden to have people and such equipment on the beaches after 20.00 at night.

Considering that turtles lay eggs during the dark hours when the sun sets, these beaches should be evacuated after 20.00.

According to the Environmental Law No. 18/2012, those who do not comply with this rule will be punished up to 2 times the monthly minimum wage in accordance with the article “Deliberately killing, capturing or harming wild animals determined to be under protection, including their habitats”.

You can report people who do not comply with the law to the Environmental Protection Agency’s hotline ‘Alo 123’.
